Theatre Adventure Thursday Troupe members are adults who share a burning desire as performing artists. The actors create a nurturing community of artists with a breadth of talent in addition to a beautiful diversity of physical, developmental, and cognitive differences. The stage, an audience, costumes, character development, set design, script development, blocking, props, memorization of lines, movement work, pantomime, shadow puppets, music, movement, dancing, and singing all feed the spirits of the troupe members as they spend the school year together creating their original productions. Past productions include: The Costume Shop, Daydreaming, Raising our Voices Together, Twelfth Night, Midsummer Night’s Dream, Stagestruck, Courageous, and Flights of Fancy.
This coming school year promises to offer a tremendous feast of creative opportunities. Our hybrid programming model gives students the option to attend in-person as well as online. We are committed to being flexible and responsive to our actors’ needs that might indeed change throughout the year in response to COVID-19 variants, inclement weather, transportation issues, and support professional schedules. Our experienced and highly skilled team of teachers/artists look forward to offering a bounty of expressive arts that will inspire and cultivate bold and innovative inclusive theater while creating our November production, Belonging.
The expressive arts will offer a rich diversity of story-telling methods for our show: acting, movement, sound, music, poetry, singing, puppetry, and more. Actors, both in-person and online, will embark on new theater adventures while creating, Belonging.
Nettie Lane, Educator and Clown Artist, will guide the Troupe into the wondrous world of Red Nose Clown. Through a somatic process, each Troupe member will discover their own unique clown character. What happens when you don "the world's smallest mask?" When you arrive first at 'being,' instead of immediately 'doing,' on stage? Where each Clown's creative impulse is a YES to be explored?
Two months of exploration, play, and improvisation will help breathe life into the November production. Characters will improvise with physicality and surprises. “Belonging” is a show about believing in self, being brave on stage, and giving back to the audience.
We anticipate the Troupe members will demonstrate courage, open hearts, joy and generosity that will create a dynamic circle - a heartbeat of connection - between the Clowns and Audience.
